관계부사의 이해

관계부사는 두 개의 문장을 하나로 만들 때, <;접속사+부사> 기능을 하는 단어이다.

관계부사에는 when, where, why, how가 있고 선행사 또는 문장의 맥락에 따라 적절한 관계부사를 선택해야 한다.

관계부사에는 시간을 나타내는 when, 장소를 나타내는 where, 이유를 나타내는 why, 방법을 나타내는 how가 있어요. 주로 관계부사와 관계대명사를 구별하는 문제나 문맥상 적절한 어휘 찾기 문제가 나오죠.

관계대명사(주격, 목적격) 뒤에는 불완전한 문장, 관계부사 뒤에는 완전한 문장이 나온다.

The city has several temples [which/where] serve as tourist attractions.

관계대명사 주어가 없는 불완전한 문장

관계부사 <;주어+동사+목적어>가 있는 완전한 문장

*두 개의 문장을 하나로 만들 때 접속사가 필요하다.

→ The lights went out last night when there was a big storm.

관계부사 앞 명사 예문

When: the time, this morning 등 시간

Thursday is the day when he scans the computers. 그때 그가 컴퓨터를 검사한다

Where: the place, the street 등 장소

Turn off computers where you keep all the work files. 거기에 모든 작업 파일을 보관한다

Why: he reason 등 이유

how 앞에 명사 쓸 수 없음

This is how we process special orders. 어떻게 우리가 특별 주문을 처리하는가

= This is the way we process special orders.

the way how: the way와 how는 함께 쓸 수 없고 둘 중 하나만 씀
